The Ungrafted vineyard is the beating heart of Casa Setaro: there are 12 hectares of vineyards, located at an altitude between 200 and 350 meters above sea level, heterogeneous volcanic soils, due to the different presence of lapilli and effusive rocks, and various minerals, to give the wines a precious mosaic of nuances.

C a p r e t t o n e
It is a white berried variety that probably owes its name to the particular shape of the bunch, which can recall the goat’s beard. It has only recently been recognized as a vine with its own specific genetic and productive profile, typical of Vesuvius. The bunch is rather tight, with medium-sized grapes, thick skin and elliptical shape.
F a l a n g h i n a
It is a white grape variety, with a medium-long bunch, of medium size and compactness, almost conical, with a short wing. This variety has a medium-sized, spheroidal, regular berry, with a thick and consistent skin, yellowish in color, with a good amount of bloom.

Site specific features
I v i g n e t i
Casa Setaro’s desire, starting right from the vineyard, is to recover the character of the historic autochthonous Vesuvian vines and to transfer it to the glass with the utmost respect for the authenticity of the terroir and the identity of the vine.

P i e d i r o s s o
It is a black berried variety, with a large, pyramidal bunch, with evident wings, semi-sparse. It has a medium sized, sub-spherical berry, with a regular shape and cross section; an intense purplish-red, pruinose, thick and almost leathery skin.
A g l i a n i c o
It is a black grape variety, with a cylindrical, tending to triangular, full and medium-sized bunch. The berry is small, between round and slightly oval, juicy and of an intense dark blue color, while its skin is very pruinose.

"A vineyard that climbs the back of a hill until it reaches the sky is a familiar sight, yet the curtains of the simple and deep rows appear to be a magical door. Under the vines the red earth is tilted, the leaves hide treasures, and beyond the leaves is the sky."

– Cesare Pavese

In the Field

Cultivating the autochthonous varieties by hand is the result of a choice, not only of the heart, but also of an agronomic one, aimed at enhancing the peculiarities of the vineyard areas in which the company vineyards are located. The differences are rich if these factors are known and respected: soil, altitude, exposure and microclimatic conditions.
In harvest
The harvest follows different maturation times, respecting the natural cycle of each season. After the careful selection of the bunches in the vineyard and in the cellar, the grapes of the different vines are sent separately for vinification.
